[ Nghhh.
Gadreel openly hesitates, pressing a hand to one of the plants there, thumbing over its leaves carefully, gingerly. ]
I do not want many others to be aware of this. Castiel included.
[ They'll find out eventually, but he doesn't trust anyone, and this - Inias, is stressful enough. At the mention of Lucifer, he withdraws his hand and balls it up. ]
No. Should he attempt to set foot here, I will kill him.
no subject
No one is killing anyone.
[With the air of saying this at least twice a week because lbr he probably does. And Inias returns his attention to the slice of Garden, reaching out with his own hands to gently cup a flower.]
If Lucifer is aware of your presence here, Gadreel, it is only a matter of time before he discovers this -- and while I do not think he cares to lend a great amount of attention to it, his entire existence is one of destruction.
[Quietly, as he brushes some stray pollen off of the petals of the tiger lily he is touching.]
He would destroy this simply as a manner of lashing out against God, and you, for what has happened to him.
[Inias looks up at Gadreel, still frowning.]
Castiel could protect this -- and would, if asked. He would not touch anything within this plot of land without consent.
no subject
[ No, he knows that's not reasonable. It's more likely he'll get killed trying it, but he won't let his fuck-ups happen again. He can't. The other angels would want to come and see but the idea of it being a draw for them is nauseating. ]
So long as I do not attract his attention I do not believe he would intentionally destroy it, but I would not risk it.
[ And at the mention of Castiel, his lips press thinner. ]
I do not trust him. [ Not with this. Not after Lucifer. ]
no subject
... I can help you as much as I am able, but it would be wise to ward it if you are concerned.
[As Inias gently pets the tiger lily, enamored.]
I can lend as much care and energy to this as possible, but I will warn you that Castiel will grow suspicious of what I am doing if I return home tired.
no subject
[ He just doesn't want to tell him why, okay, that's it. ]
I believe it is small enough I can maintain it successfully, but if something were to happen to me-
[ A pause, and a swallow. ]
Abner is not here.
no subject
I will assist, of course, but do not lose hope. He may yet return.
[Inias pauses.]
You are here by yourself?
no subject
Gadreel cringes just a bit. God, that's a scary thought. ]
I will need to protect this from those who will be able to bypass wards.
no subject
I could stay here to assist in whatever you need, for the time being.
[Until Castiel has an aneurysm or something.]
no subject
Castiel would notice.
LMAO
[Amicably, as he returns his attention to the Garden.]
But I think I could manage to convince him that a week or so would not be deadly.
[Until Lucifer rips out his wings or something terrible, but Inias is pretty sure Castiel is scarier than Lucifer when furious.]
fake tagging you is my actual favorite hobby
[ Hhhh but company. It makes him feel terrible he's even considering this, putting himself before the Garden again, because he's lonely but at the same time additional help would not be a bad thing. ]
If you believe he would not - [ what's the polite way of saying "be a huge fucking twat" ] - oppose it strongly.
no subject
Inias rustles his wings in thought, contemplative.]
I suppose it would depend on how much attention Lucifer has given you.
[He looks over, composed, but it's fairly obvious how batshit fucking terrified of Lucifer the babby angels are.]
That will be his first question.
no subject
Lucifer would have me see his side. He has...apologized, for the other angels using me as a scapegoat.
[ three guesses as to what Gadreel thinks about that. ]
no subject
He apologized.
[Inias is pretty sure that sums it up but NO WAIT THERE'S MORE]
He apologized for the destruction of innocence and the creation of sin.
[YOU CAN'T JUST SAY OH MY BAD TO RUINING THE GARDEN OF EDEN LUCIFER]
no subject
[ His tone sours further. ]
He apologized the angels turning on me and locking me away. He said he never intended for that to happen.
[ Fuck everything else, though. ]
no subject
[Though Inias can see Gadreel has kind of figured that out for himself via personal experiences, it should probably be reiterated]
He is selfish, and only considers himself. Were he truly apologetic for what has happened to you, he would do something about it, and pursue Naomi. But he has not.
[To his knowledge, anyway, though the two of them punching each other would be great Pay Per View.]
no subject
[ Pls. ]
He has no interest in doing so, I am certain.
[ Gadreel shakes his head, thoroughly displeased. ]
If you wish to stay here, I would have you.
no subject
I would be happy to stay for a time -- there is no need to sleep, so I have plenty of time to fill.
[He glances back at the Garden.]
Besides, this is well worth protecting.
no subject
[ More than 'inclined' really. Gadreel shakes his head, smoothing his hands down wrinkles in his pants and glances over. ]
Tell me if he objects. I will not be insulted if you choose to follow him.
no subject
Castiel forgets that I, too, fought in the war.
[It's quiet -- regretful, almost, reluctant to say, but as Inias slides his hands into the pockets of his jacket, it's quite clear what, exactly, that means.
Inias is gentle and loving and pacifistic, but he is just as deadly as the rest of Castiel's garrison. He is alive because he fought to be that way -- surviving Raphael is no easy feat. Inias may be unskilled at a lot of things, but the sword is not one of them.]
It is hard to be afraid of Lucifer when you have seen worse.
no subject
[ He can't imagine much worse than that, truthfully, though he hasn't really experienced everything that's happened.
He's vaguely aware of it, of course, but it's not the same as witnessing it. ]
It is...hard to picture.
no subject
[With a slightly strained smile, though Inias is relatively neutral.]
It was worse.
no subject
[ It's bad enough things are as they are now - with the factions warring against each other. If it was worse before that, he would not want to see it. ]
no subject
He suddenly looks rather old.]
It was Raphael and his massive force against our own. We were outnumbered by... a large amount.
[A pause.]
Many of us died in order to obtain some semblance of freedom. I refused to attack first, but I also had to defend myself. I could not afford to die, not when the risk of doing so was so great.
[He closes his eyes completely, to think.]
God will never forgive me for the acts I have committed, nor should He. Part of me almost believes that it would have been better had the Apocalypse taken place, but I know that is also wrong. There is no decent ending to Heaven's story -- the fruit of optimism has long since run dry.
[Inias pauses again before opening his eyes to stare at Gadreel, serious.]
You asked me when you first arrived what you have missed -- all you have missed is pain. Being locked away was a curse, but it may also be a blessing.
[He averts his eyes to the ground, toying with a blade of grass.]
At least you did not need to witness the slaughter.
no subject
He does not care, nor is he watching, Inias.
[ Perhaps it's unwise to say it out loud, but he's bitter and angry and everyone believes it's his fault that He left, but Lucifer was right about this much.
No one made Him do anything he did not wish to.
At the mention of being locked away, he bristles up, stepping forward before he can stop himself. The other angels had been on the end of Naomi's drill or the other's tortures, yes, but not for so long. ]
Nothing is a blessing about being locked away for so long a time. Nothing.
